Save the date for The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) March 10 and our joint event with Equality Now is on the first day of this year’s gathering from 2:30 - 4:00 PM

We are in the final days of our push to have President Biden publish the ERA before leaving office. We joined forces with allies to strengthen our call for making the ERA the 28th Amendment to the Constitution.

On January 14, we participated in a press conference  led by the ERA Alliance announcing the delivery of over 200k petition signatures, which was attended by former Rep. Cori Bush, along with representatives from Center for American Progress, Free Speech for People, Equal Means Equal, the League of Women Voters-US, National Council of Jewish Women, Shattering Glass,Sisters Lead, Sisters Vote, Vote Equality, Workers Circle, Women’s March and the Young Feminist Party and more.

“The Equal Rights Amendment has been ratified, the next step is clear: it must be published without any more delays or excuses. President Biden can ensure his legacy as a champion for gender equality and women’s rights by directing the National Archivist to act, securing constitutional gender equality ahead of the new administration.” — Zakiya Thomas, President & CEO, ERA Coalition.

We organized a  massive text action to ask President Biden to make the ERA part of his legacy. The action reached over 50,000 people across different social media and other digital platforms. This action was just in time, we have been informed that no more text, email and phone calls are  being received by the White House as transition begins.

The Equal Beats concert held January14 at DC’s Songbyrd with This Could Go Boom was an opportunity to engage in a much much needed catharsis to release the past burdens and start the next ERA chapter come next week. Once again, we are thankful to all musicians and everyone who joined us for a special evening of sisterhood and fellowship as we called  for the ERA’s publication.

We co-sponsored a January 15th rally, Martin Luther King’s actual birthday, in partnership with the Young Feminist Party at Freedom Plaza where several of our partner organizations joined us to call for putting the ERA in the U.S. Constitution, no matter what it takes. We ended with a march to the White House.

Later that evening, we joined Equality Now and the Young Feminist Party for a projection message on the National Archives’ building asking President Biden to take immediate action for the ERA and ensure its publication so that we can have the tools needed to fight against the future attacks on our rights. See a video of the action here.

As you see, it has been a full week, and the fight for equality is not over. We will see the ERA published in the U.S. Constitution and we will continue working to ensure that future elected leaders fulfill their responsibility to the people and secure a future where equality is fully recognized in our nation’s guiding document. We won’t go back and we won’t be turned around!
